Artist Statement:
My work is allegoric narrative. Not just a dialogue about my personal daily struggle, it is a metaphor for the conflicts of universal modern life.
Pastoral images are juxtaposed with those of the electronic age. An interest in world history and other cultures is inspiration that provides another layer of source material for my compositions.
A daily sketching ritual helps me to develop reoccurring icons. Interchanging symbols create a new narrative. Over time, a series of images develop which have common elements; yet contain a different, or double meaning.
To alter, invert or isolate an icon's value appeals to me. This action reveals a previously unexposed dimension of familiar objects. Suddenly the symbols become something else; subject to interpretation by the viewer. It is my hope to create a connection with the viewer and to encourage the viewer to perceive the world around them differently.
